    MINISTÈRE DES ARMÉES

GTIA "LÉGION" / SGTIA 1 UNIT: GREEN PLATOON (SECTION VERT 1)

LOCATION: BOA NAPOLEON (POST-RELIEF) DTG: [DATE REDACTED]

SUBJECT: AFTER ACTION REPORT (COMPTE-RENDU DE FIN DE MISSION) – OP EQUILIBRE 05 (NETTOYAGE SANGAR) TO: C-TOP (COMMAND ELEMENT)

FROM: CNE. A. Hughes, COMPANY COMMANDER (VERT)

    CLASSIFICATION: DIFFUSION RESTREINTE (RESTRICTED)

    1. GENERAL SITUATION (SITUATION GÉNÉRALE)

Operation: Clearance of Gulahy Shal, destruction of enemy armor assets, and seizure of Jharnok FOB. Context: Green 1 initiated the operation from CP ARCOLE (Grid 030003), which was already experiencing active skirmishes from enemy elements in Gulahy Shal and Jharnok. Friction: The operation commenced with significant Support/Reinforcement failures. The designated overwatch element (NOIR 51 / 2 REP) failed to establish their Fire Support Position near OP Lasalle. Additionally, the reinforcing armored element (GREEN 2) was heavily delayed.

    2. EXECUTION (DÉROULEMENT)

PHASE 1: CLEARANCE OF GULAHY SHAL & TANK INSTALLATION

Due to the absence of Noir 5-1's overwatch and Green 2's heavy armor, Green 1 executed the initial clearance unsupported.

    • Discovery: A concealed enemy observation/support position was identified 100-200m South of the main axis behind rock formations. It was manned with HMGs and a mobile 40mm Bofors Anti-Air truck.
    • Maneuver (Green 1-1): The infantry element pushed to the enemy tank repair installation (Grid 033005), securing it and verifying all enemy equipment was neutralized. From there, Green 1-1 pivoted to assault Gulahy Shal from the North, pushing South through the urban area.
    • Maneuver (Green 1-0 & 1-2): A separate command fire team (Green 1-0) engaged targets under the covering fire of Green 1-2's VBCI.
    • Outcome: Despite the lack of planned support, Gulahy Shal and the installation were cleared. Minor friendly casualties were sustained but immediately treated and returned to combat effectiveness.

PHASE 2: JHARNOK FOB ASSAULT & ARMOR THREAT

During the transition to Phase 2, INS-MOT-01 (Motorized reinforcements) began arriving from Kharka Dahy in the North.

    • The Armor Incident: Green 1-2 established an overwatch position to cover the Jharnok assault. A hull-down enemy T-72 tank engaged the position, successfully destroying Green 1-2's VBCI.
      • Note: Miraculously, zero infantry/crew casualties occurred during the vehicle loss.
      • Adaptation: Green 1-2 crews fell back to CP Arcole, retrieved previously staged VBLs, and returned to reinforce the right flank.
    • The Assault (Green 1-1): Bypassing the small village 100m West of Jharnok, Green 1-1 executed a right-flank assault directly on JHARNOK FOB.
      • Terrain Exploitation: The infantry utilized a valley on the right flank featuring a ~30-meter elevation, effectively masking their approach from enemy armor.
      • CQB: After neutralizing several patrols in the defilade, Green 1-1 pushed into Jharnok FOB. Combat was cumbersome due to the encroaching northern motorized reinforcements, but the FOB was successfully seized and converted into a temporary Green 1 Command Post.
    • Consolidation: From the Jharnok CP, elements pushed West to clear the previously bypassed small village.

PHASE 3: ZAYMUR RIVER BLOCK & RELIEF IN PLACE

    • Arrival of Green 2: Platoon Green 2 (4x VBCI) finally arrived on station in the late stages of the operation.
    • Blocking Action: Green 2 established the planned blocking position at the Zaymur River bridge. They immediately engaged incoming INS-MOT-01 reinforcements, completely halting the enemy counter-attack and inflicting massive vehicular casualties.
    • Relief: With the northern flank secured by Green 2, Green 1 was relieved in place without further incident and withdrew to CP Arcole.

    3. ASSESSMENT OF LOSSES (BILAN)

    A. FRIENDLY (AMIS)

    • Personnel: Minor WIA. 0 KIA.
    • Vehicles: 1x VBCI DESTROYED (Green 1-2).

    B. ENEMY (ENNEMI)

The INS-MECH-01 Battalion remnants are considered 100% DESTROYED/COMBAT INEFFECTIVE. The INS-MOT-01 Company sustained catastrophic losses (Est. 2-3 Platoons wiped out).

    • Confirmed Vehicle Kills:
      • 1x T-72 Main Battle Tank (Hull-down position).
      • 1x 40mm Bofors Anti-Air System (Truck-mounted).
      • 10+ BTRs (incl. 8 destroyed by Green 2 at the Zaymur River).
      • Multiple Ural transport trucks and light vehicles.
    • Facilities: Tank installation (033005) cleared. Jharnok FOB seized. Gulahy Shal cleared.

    4. LESSONS LEARNED (RETEX)

    • SUSTAIN (POINTS FORTS):
      • Tactical Flexibility: Green 1-1's use of the 30m elevation dead-space on the right flank allowed them to assault Jharnok FOB despite the presence of enemy armor and motorized reinforcements.
      • Vehicle Recovery/Adaptation: Green 1-2's immediate fallback to retrieve VBLs after losing their VBCI kept the platoon's momentum alive.
    • IMPROVE (POINTS À AMÉLIORER):
      • Unit Synchronization: The failure of NOIR 5-1 to occupy the OP Lasalle overwatch, combined with the extreme tardiness of GREEN 2, forced Green 1 to execute a reinforced battalion clearance with a single platoon. This desynchronization nearly resulted in a stalled offensive.
      • Anti-Armor Awareness: The loss of the VBCI highlights the continuing threat of isolated, hull-down armor in this sector. Overwatch elements must prioritize scanning for armored thermal signatures before committing VBCIs to static support by fire positions.
      • Radio Communication (Transmissions): There was a severe lack of communication originating from the Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs). To ensure the Command Element maintains accurate situational awareness, NCOs must provide much more frequent updates and SITREPs regarding their movements, tactical actions, and unit status.

    5. CONCLUSION

MISSION SUCCESS. Despite critical friction regarding supporting elements and timings, Green 1 successfully accomplished all Phase 1 and Phase 2 objectives. The Sangar Valley floor is now under GTIA control, and the enemy mechanized threat in this sector has been effectively eradicated.
