GTIA "LÉGION" / SGTIA 1UNIT: GREEN PLATOON (SECTION VERT 1)
LOCATION: CHECKPOINT 030003 (SECURED) / BOA NAPOLEON DTG: [DATE REDACTED]
SUBJECT: AFTER ACTION REPORT (COMPTE-RENDU DE FIN DE MISSION) – OP EQUILIBRE 04 TO: C-TOP (COMMAND ELEMENT)
FROM: CNE. A. Hughes, COMPANY COMMANDER (VERT)
CLASSIFICATION: DIFFUSION RESTREINTE (RESTRICTED)
1. GENERAL SITUATION (SITUATION GÉNÉRALE)
Mission Intent: Secure the Sangar Valley, CLEAR the town of GULAHY SHAL, NEUTRALIZE the JHARNOK FOB, and secure the MSR leading to the Zaymur River (North Kunar). Route: Axis "HANSHO" (Same approach as OP Chichal). Forces:
Green 1: VBCI/VBL Maneuver Element.
Green 2: Reinforcement Element (4x VBCI + Infantry).
Air Assets: Cruise Missile / GBU Support active.
2. EXECUTION (DÉROULEMENT)
PHASE 1: APPROACH & CONTACT (Grid 026005)
Hansho Hill: Convoy engaged by small arms ambush at the hairpin. Engagement was minor compared to previous operations; repelled immediately.
ZSU Contact: Encountered a mobile ZSU-SPAA platform. Enemy fire was ineffective. The platform withdrew before it could be destroyed.
Main Contact: At Grid 026005, contact report received regarding a fortified position 500m ahead at Grid 030003.
Disposition: VBCI elements established a Support by Fire (SBF) base. Green 1-1 (VBLs) pushed forward to assault the trench lines.
PHASE 2: THE CROSSFIRE & "THE CASTLE"
During the assault on 030003, Green 1-1 came under heavy crossfire from:
A disguised emplacement at the objective (030003).
"The Castle" (Grid 028002) - the same fortified structure from AAR-03.
Resolution: A precision Cruise Missile Strike was authorized and executed on The Castle.
Bilan: Castle neutralized effectively.
Ground Action: Green 1-1 successfully cleared the disguised bunkers at the checkpoint.
PHASE 3: THE MECHANIZED COUNTER-ATTACK (GULAHY SHAL)
Upon securing Checkpoint 030003, the advance bogged down. Drone reconnaissance (Post-Contact) revealed a massive intelligence failure: A camouflaged Mechanized Company was garrisoned in GULAHI SHAL.
Enemy Order of Battle: 4x T-72 Main Battle Tanks, Mobile ZSU, MTLB, BTRs, BRDM-2s, and "Turtle" Armor improvised vehicles.
The Engagement: Enemy armor pushed from Grids 033005 / 033004 to retake the gap.
Friendly Action:
Lacking sufficient organic Anti-Tank weaponry to counter T-72s, Green 1 coordinated GBU Air Strikes.
Mortar Fire: Full saturation of Gulahi Shal was ordered. Due to the total integration of insurgent forces within the town, collateral damage restrictions were lifted. The town was effectively leveled to deny cover.
Effect: The enemy counter-attack was shattered. All 4 Tanks and support vehicles were destroyed.
PHASE 4: LOSS OF GREEN 2 (CATASTROPHIC FAILURE)
Platoon GREEN 2 (4x VBCI + Infantry) arrived to reinforce the push.
Incident: Due to gross mismanagement of assets and lack of situational awareness, Green 2 maneuvered their VBCIs directly into the kill zone of the surviving enemy T-72s and ATGM teams near the garrison.
Outcome:Total destruction of Green 2. All 4 vehicles and their infantry complement were lost.
PHASE 5: CONSOLIDATION
Green 1, having sustained non-lethal casualties, managed to hold Checkpoint 030003 but lost all momentum to push further.
End State: 50-60% of Sangar Valley secured. Gulahi Shal destroyed but not occupied. Jarnok FOB remains untouched.
3. ASSESSMENT OF LOSSES (BILAN)
A. FRIENDLY (AMIS)
GREEN 1: Multiple WIA (All recovered/Combat Effective).
GREEN 2:DESTROYED. 4x VBCI lost. Heavy KIA (Infantry & Crew).
Material: Heavy expenditure of Precision Air Munitions (GBU/Missile).
B. ENEMY (ENNEMI)
Infantry: Est. 100-150 KIA.
Armor:
4x T-72 MBT (Destroyed).
3x MTLB (Destroyed).
3x BTR (Destroyed).
4x BRDM-2 (Destroyed).
Multiple ZSU/Technical platforms destroyed.
4. LESSONS LEARNED (RETEX)
SUSTAIN (POINTS FORTS)
Air Integration: The use of Cruise Missiles on "The Castle" and GBUs on the T-72s saved Green 1 from annihilation.
Infantry Resilience: Green 1-1's assault on the bunkers under crossfire was executed perfectly.
Fire Support: The decision to saturate Gulahi Shal, while controversial regarding collateral damage, was tactically necessary to halt the infantry swarm.
IMPROVE (POINTS À AMÉLIORER)
INTELLIGENCE FAILURE (RENSEIGNEMENT): The failure of drone reconnaissance to spot 4 Main Battle Tanks and a mechanized company in Gulahi Shal is unacceptable. This lack of intel directly contributed to the bogged-down state of the operation.
COMMAND & CONTROL (GREEN 2): The loss of an entire platoon (Green 2) was avoidable. Reinforcements must not rush blindly into unsecured sectors containing heavy armor.
ANTI-ARMOR CAPABILITY: Green 1 lacked the organic firepower to deal with T-72s, relying entirely on CAS. If air support had been unavailable, Green 1 would have been overrun.
PLANNING: The operation suffered from a lack of timely planning and preparation of the battlespace.
5. CONCLUSION
TACTICAL STALEMATE / STRATEGIC LOSS. While the enemy sustained massive material and personnel losses, the destruction of Green 2 constitutes a significant blow to GTIA combat power. We hold the Checkpoint (030003), but the Sangar Valley is only partially secured.
