    MINISTÈRE DES ARMÉES

GTIA "LÉGION" / SGTIA 1 UNIT: GREEN PLATOON (SECTION VERT 1)

LOCATION: BOA NAPOLEON (POST-EXTRACTION) DTG: [DATE REDACTED]

SUBJECT: AFTER ACTION REPORT (COMPTE-RENDU DE FIN DE MISSION) – OP EQUILIBRE 03 (QRF CHICHAL) TO: C-TOP (COMMAND ELEMENT)

FROM: CNE. A. Hughes, COMPANY COMMANDER (VERT)

    CLASSIFICATION: DIFFUSION RESTREINTE (RESTRICTED)

    1. GENERAL SITUATION (SITUATION GÉNÉRALE)

Context: Following the stabilization of Restrepo, a detachment of Combat Engineers (Sapeurs, 1er REG) was tasked with establishing a Combat Outpost (COP) in the village of CHICHAL (Sangar Valley). Incident: The Engineer detachment came under overwhelming ambush fire upon arrival. A "Broken Arrow" / QRF request was transmitted to GTIA Legion. Tasking: GREEN 1 (Section Vert 1) was immediately tasked as the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) to reinforce the position and extract the besieged element.

    2. EXECUTION (DÉROULEMENT)

PHASE 1: MOVEMENT & HANSHO HILL AMBUSH

Green 1 departed immediately towards the Sangar Valley.

    • Contact: On the approach near HANSHO HILL (specifically the hairpin turn on the elevated gradient), the convoy was ambushed.
    • Action: The platoon reacted aggressively. Fire superiority was established quickly.
    • Casualties: 1x WIA (Friendly).
    • Outcome: Casualty was resuscitated and returned to fighting condition on-site. The ambush was repelled, and movement continued without significant delay.

PHASE 2: APPROACH TO CHICHAL (THE "CASTLE")

As the unit pushed deeper into the Sangar Valley towards Chichal, flanking fire was received from the South-East of the Koran Rud terminus.

    • Threat: Heavy crossfire originating from a fortified structure (designated "The Castle") overlooking the valley floor.
    • Impact: This position allowed the enemy to harass the approach, forcing the platoon to fight through a kill zone before reaching the objective.

PHASE 3: CHICHAL ENTRY & MASCAL SITUATION

Upon entering CHICHAL to locate the Engineers, the platoon encountered a prepared defensive network. Insurgents engaged from fortified buildings and reinforced positions in the surrounding treeline.

    • Vehicle Incident: A VBCI became immobilized (stuck) in the difficult terrain during the engagement, limiting fire support mobility.
    • The Firefight: The enemy volume of fire resulted in a Mass Casualty (MASCAL) situation.
      • Critical State: Approximately 70-80% of Green 1's combat strength was rendered unconscious or critically wounded during the breach.
    • Medical Response: Despite the overwhelming odds, the remaining effective personnel and medics managed to resuscitate and stabilize the force, bringing them back to a semi-combat effective state to continue the mission.

    PHASE 4: RECOVERY & WITHDRAWAL

    • Objective Location: The platoon fought through to the Engineer's last known position.
    • Status of Engineers: The Engineer detachment had been annihilated. ONE (1) survivor was located alive.
    • Extraction: The survivor was secured. Due to the hostile saturation of the village and the fragility of the platoon's status, the order to WITHDRAW was given.
    • Exfiltration: The unit conducted a fighting withdrawal under fire, successfully bringing the survivor and all Green 1 personnel/vehicles back to friendly lines.

    3. ASSESSMENT OF LOSSES (BILAN)

    A. FRIENDLY (AMIS)

    • Green 1: Heavy casualties (WIA) sustained during the MASCAL event. 0 KIA (all resuscitated).
    • Engineers (1er REG): Team effectively destroyed. 1 Survivor recovered.
    • Mission Status: COP establishment FAILED.

    B. ENEMY (ENNEMI)

    • Territory: CHICHAL remains under HOSTILE control.
    • Positions: "The Castle" and urban defenses in Chichal remain active.

    4. LESSONS LEARNED (RETEX)

    • SUSTAIN (POINTS FORTS):
      • Combat Medicine: The ability to recover from an 80% casualty rate in active contact is a testament to the skill of the Auxiliaires Sanitaires. This prevented a total loss of the platoon.
      • Resilience: Despite the MASCAL and the ambush, the objective (finding the survivor) was achieved.
    • IMPROVE (POINTS À AMÉLIORER):
      • Route Analysis: The VBCI becoming stuck in the village center severely hampered fire support at the critical moment.
      • Intel on "The Castle": The flanking position in the Sangar Valley was unmapped/unknown and allowed the enemy to separate the infantry from support.
      • Support Limits: Trying to force a COP in Chichal with a single platoon QRF proved over-ambitious given the enemy density in the Sangar Valley.

    5. CONCLUSION

MISSION FAILED (OBJECTIVE COP) / MISSION SUCCESS (RESCUE). While the establishment of the outpost was abandoned and the sector remains hostile, the recovery of the sole surviving Engineer was successful. The Sangar Valley is currently a "No-Go" zone for anything less than a company-sized element.
