    Description
    The Colonel is the highest authority within the Legion's Groupement Tactique Interarmes Légion étrangère (GTIA Légion étrangère). He commands the regiment in its entirety — both in combat and in garrison. As the Chef de Corps, he embodies the traditions, discipline, and strategic vision of the Legion.

    Responsibilities

    • Full command of the Legion’s GTIA, including infantry, cavalry, engineers, and support units
    • Oversees all operational deployments, logistics, and command structures
    • Acts as the final authority on strategy, promotions, and unit integrity

    • Commands: All SGTIA/Company -level commands, regimental staff, and support elements

    1. Appointed by Foreign Legion Command


  • Lieutenant-Colonel
    OF-4 | LCL.

    Role Title: Adjoint au Chef de Corps – Commandant Adjoint du GTIA Légion étrangère 

    Description
    The Lieutenant-Colonel is the direct second-in-command of the Groupement Tactique Interarmes Légion étrangère (GTIA Légion étrangère). Acting as the Colonel’s right hand, he is entrusted with overseeing daily operations and ensuring the smooth execution of orders across the Regiment. In the absence of the Colonel, the Lieutenant-Colonel assumes full command responsibilities.

    Responsibilities

    • Assists the Colonel in the strategic and operational management of the GTIA Légion étrangère
    • Directly oversees Regimental Staff and supports inter-branch coordination (infantry, cavalry, support)
    • Serves as acting commander when the Colonel is absent or deployed elsewhere

    • Commands: Regimental Staff, Executive Officers, GTIA operations officers

    OF-3 | CDT.

    Role Title: Chef de SGTIA - Officier Supérieur d'État-Major

    Description
    The Commandant serves as a senior officer within the Regiment, holding either tactical command over a Sous-Groupement Tactique Interarmes (SGTIA) or fulfilling a command function within the Regimental Staff. As an experienced Legion officer, he bridges the operational gap between command leadership and the units on the ground.

    Responsibilities
    If SGTIA Commander:

    • Direct command over a Batallion or Company sized Sous-Groupement Tactique Interarmes (SGTIA) 
    • Coordination of attached units, logistics, and fire support

    If Senior Staff Officer:

    • Oversees operational planning, intelligence, and mission development
    • Coordinates cross-regimental functions (e.g., training, personnel, logistics)
    • Acts as senior advisor to the Lieutenant-Colonel and Colonel
    • May be assigned to lead specialized missions or task forces

    Command Structure

    • Reports to: Lieutenant-Colonel / Adjoint au Chef de Corps or Colonel / Chef de Corps 
    • Commands: Company-level leaders (Capitaines), Staff Sections, or attached elements

    Role Title: Chef de Compagnie

    Description
    The Capitaine is entrusted with command of a company or company-sized Sous-Groupement Tactique Interarmes (SGTIA) within the Legion. Whether leading infantry, cavalry, or a specialist formation, he serves as the tactical spearpoint of the Regiment.

    Responsibilities

    • Full command over a company-sized formation (infantry, cavalry, engineers, etc.)
    • Maintenance of combat readiness, training, and esprit de corps
    • Direct leadership over platoon commanders and their sections

    • Reports to: Chef de SGTIA, Adjoint au Chef de Corps, Chef de Corps
    • Commands: Lieutenants, Adjudants, and company elements

    Prerequisites

    1. Personally appointed by the Regimental Command

  • Lieutenant
    OF-1 | LTN.

    Role Title: Chef de Section / Officier Adjoint

    Description
    The Lieutenant serves as the commander of a section (platoon) or as an executive officer within a company. While primarily assigned to command a section, the Lieutenant may temporarily assume company command in the absence of senior officers.

    • Leads a platoon-sized element in all operational scenarios
    • Maintains discipline, training, and combat effectiveness of the section
    • Assists the Capitaine in managing company logistics, administration, and readiness

    Prerequisites

    1. Approved and appointed by Regimental Command
    2. Recognised as a trusted and capable member of the command cadre

  • Sous-Lieutenant
    OF-1 | SLT.

    Role Title: Chef de Section

    Description
    The Sous-Lieutenant is a newly commissioned officer and junior leader within the Legion. Often promoted from the ranks of experienced NCOs, the Sous-Lieutenant is in a transitional role — learning the full scope of commissioned responsibilities while supporting the command structure of the company.

    • Assists in leading a section or supporting a company’s command staff
    • Contributes to training, logistics, and internal communications within the unit

    1. Approved by Regimental Command
    2. Recognised as a trusted and developing leader
    3. Successfully completed all required leadership and officer training courses
    4. Demonstrated excellence in all ranks up to and including OR-7, fulfilling all prior prerequisites

    OF-D | ASP.

    Role Title: Élève-Officier / Candidat au Grade de Sous-Lieutenant

    Description
    The Aspirant is an officer candidate within the Legion, having completed the required foundational training and now entering the final phase before commissioning. Assigned to support company or platoon leadership, the Aspirant learns directly from seasoned officers and is given real responsibilities to develop practical leadership and tactical command experience.

    • Assists Lieutenants or Sous-Lieutenants in leading sections and executing daily duties
    • Participates in planning, training, and operational preparation

    • Commands: Sergents, and assigned section personnel

    1. Officially selected for officer commissioning path

    MAJ. | OR-9

    Role Title: Major

    Description
    The Major is the highest-ranking non-commissioned officer (Sous-Officier) in the GTIA, serving as a trusted senior advisor to Regimental Command. The Major is a central figure in the daily life of the Legion, where his word carries near-command weight in all matters concerning troops and structure.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversees discipline, morale, and conduct across all ranks within the GTIA
    • Advises the Colonel and Lieutenant-Colonel on personnel matters and Regimental cohesion
    • Coordinates closely with company and battalion-level NCOs to ensure operational readiness
    • Supports mission planning from a non-commissioned officer perspective
    • Mentors NCOs and facilitates leadership development throughout the Regiment

    • Commands: Senior NCOs and personnel across companies and staff sections (direct & indirect authority)

    Prerequisites

    1. Personally promoted and appointed by the Colonel


  • Adjudant-Chef
    OR-8 | ADC.

    Role Title: Adjudant-Chef / Adjoint de Compagnie

    Description
    The Adjudant-Chef is the senior non-commissioned officer of a company or battalion. As the backbone of enlisted leadership, he provides experienced oversight, enforces standards, and guides the development of NCOs and Legionnaires alike. Operating closely with the Capitaine, he can serve as the second-in-command of the company, stepping in as acting commander when needed.

    Responsibilities

    • Serves as senior NCO within a company or battalion
    • Provides mentorship and oversight to all junior NCOs and enlisted men
    • Assists the Company Commander in administrative, operational, and disciplinary tasks
    • Acts as Company Commander in the absence of a commissioned officer
    • Participates in command staff meetings and strategic planning within the company

    • Commands: Adjudants, Sergents, and assigned company personnel

    1. Recommendation from the Company Commander
    2. Proven ability to assist and represent the Company Commander when required
    3. Demonstrated participation in command staff responsibilities
    4. Sets the standard of NCO leadership within the Regiment
    5. Successful track record as a NCO

    OR-8 | ADJ.

    Role Title: Adjudant / Chef de Section

    Description
    The Adjudant is a senior NCO who often assumes the role of platoon commander in the absence of a commissioned officer. Trusted to lead independently in combat and in garrison, the Adjudant upholds the highest standards of discipline, cohesion, and tactical execution. Whether commanding a section or supporting the Company Command Group, he serves as a direct reflection of the Legion’s expectations for non-commissioned excellence.

    Responsibilities

    • Acts as Platoon Commander when no Lieutenant or Sous-Lieutenant is present
    • Maintains combat readiness, discipline, and morale within the section

    • Trains and supervises junior NCOs and leads by example on and off the field

    OR-7 | SCH.

    Role Title: Sergent-chef / Adjoint de Section

    Description
    The Sergent-chef is a seasoned non-commissioned officer tasked with maintaining control, cohesion, and combat effectiveness at the section level. Often serving as a Platoon Sergeant or senior squad leader, he ensures that all operational duties are carried out with discipline and precision. As a future candidate for senior NCO responsibilities, the Sergent-chef acts as a bridge between junior leadership and command staff, assisting the Adjudant while training those below him.

    • Acts as Platoon Sergeant or Senior Squad Leader under a Lieutenant or Adjudant

    • Supports the development of junior NCOs and ensures mission cohesion
    • Oversees section-level administration, logistics, and personnel matters

    OR-6 | SCH.

    Role Title: Sergent-chef / Adjoint de Section

    Description
    The Sergent-chef is a battle-proven non-commissioned officer, positioned as a senior squad leader or as to the Platoon Sergeant. Known for his consistency, discipline, and calm under pressure, the Sergent-chef ensures his section or squad operates with precision. He is also expected to support platoon-level leadership when required and lead by example in every aspect of Legion life.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures readiness, discipline, and cohesion within his squad or fire teams
    • Assists in training and supervising junior NCOs and Legionnaires
    • Provides operational support and maintains standards when senior NCOs are absent
    • Acts as Platoon Sergeant or Senior Squad Leader under a Lieutenant or Adjudant

    OR-5 | SGT.

    Role Title:  Sergent / Chef de Groupe

    Description
    The Sergent is the first formal leadership rank within the non-commissioned officer cadre, typically assigned as a chef de groupe. Leading a team of Legionnaires in the field, the Sergent is responsible for executing tactical orders, maintaining discipline, and ensuring his group is battle-ready. As a cornerstone of platoon-level operations, he is expected to lead from the front and uphold Legion standards at all times.

    • Leads a combat group of Legionnaires in field operations
    • Maintains readiness, accountability, and morale of assigned personnel
    • Assists in integrating new Legionnaires into unit procedures and ethos

    Prerequisites

    1. Recommendation from the Platoon Commander

    4. Capable of conducting training within the combat group under direction of the Platoon Command


  • Caporal-chef de 1ʳᵉ Classe
    OR-5 | CC1.

    Role Title: Chef /  Chef d'Équipe

    Description
    The Caporal-chef de 1ʳᵉ Classe is a veteran Legionnaire trusted with responsibilities often equal to that of a Sergent, usually promoted to this rank after some time as caporal-chef. Frequently leading fire teams or even combat groups in operations, he is on the cusp of becoming a full non-commissioned officer. Known for his competence and reliability, he plays a vital role in training, discipline, and execution.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads a fire team or combat group in the field under the supervision of a Sergent
    • Assists in training Legionnaires and enforcing discipline within the group
    • Acts as second-in-command to the Sergent during operations or in garrison
    • Prepares for full NCO responsibilities through mentorship and leadership exercises

    Command Structure

    • Reports to: Chef de Groupe
    • Commands: Legionnaires in assigned fire team

    Prerequisites

    1. Completed all junior NCO leadership training courses
    2. Recommendation from both the Combat Group Leader and Platoon Sergeant
    3. Proven ability to lead under pressure and maintain section cohesion

    OR-4 | CCH.

    Role Title: Chef / Chef d'Équipe

    Description
    The Caporal-chef is an experienced Legionnaire entrusted with leading fire teams and assisting the Sergent in running the combat group. Often seen as a dependable right hand, he is responsible for enforcing standards, managing basic training, and leading by example.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads a fire team during field operations
    • Ensures basic discipline, equipment readiness, and task execution among Legionnaires
    • Trains and mentors junior Legionnaires and Caporaux
    • Acts as second-in-command within the fire team or group when required

    • Commands: Legionnaires assigned to his fire team

    Prerequisites

    1. Completed all junior NCO leadership training courses

    Role Title: Chef d'Équipe

    Description
    The Caporal is the first step into the ranks of leadership within the Legion. Tasked with leading small groups of Legionnaires, the Caporal is expected to demonstrate discipline, initiative, and a clear understanding of unit tactics. He is often relied upon to maintain cohesion and control at the most fundamental level.

    • Leads a small fire team in operations
    • Enforces discipline, drills, and basic routines within the section
    • Assists in managing equipment, readiness, and preparation of assigned Legionnaires

    OR-2 | 1CL.

    Role Title: 1re Classe

    Description
    The Légionnaire de 1ʳᵉ Classe is a proven and reliable Legionnaire who has demonstrated professionalism, consistency, and dedication to the Regiment. While not a formal leader, he is expected to assist team leaders, train less experienced Legionnaires, and set the example in daily duties and operations. His experience grants him the trust of his superiors and the respect of his peers.

    Responsibilities

    • Supports team leaders in executing daily tasks and operational duties
    • Trains and supervises new Legionnaires in basic skills and routines
    • Serves as an example of professionalism and conduct in the section

    • Commands: None formally; may mentor or guide Légionnaires

    Prerequisites

    Description
    The Légionnaire is the core of the Legion — a soldier in training, service, and transformation. Whether fresh from instruction or already seasoned by fire, the Légionnaire is expected to carry out all duties with precision, discipline, and commitment to the Legion's code. Every career begins here, and every Legionnaire must earn the right to rise.

    • Executes orders and tasks issued by team leaders and NCOs
    • Participates in training, combat drills, and field operations
    • Maintains personal equipment, fitness, and discipline
    • Contributes to team cohesion, morale, and combat effectiveness
